1930s Hubley Cast Iron Flower Basket Shaped Doorknocker with Ribbon on Top

Description: This is a ca 1930s cast iron doorknocker. This doorknocker is in the shape of an urn shaped flower basket with a ribbon, tied to form a bow, on top of the handle. The entire piece is painted to show the basket weave and the various colors of the flowers. It has a cream-colored basket with incised lines showing the weave. It has red, green, yellow and purple flowers with green leaves. The ribbon on top of the basket is yellow in color. The flower basket swings on a pivot attached to an oval backing. The backing has a raised portion in the bottom center where small raised portion on the back of the basket hits to make the knocking sound. The oval base also has two holes for screws to affix the entire piece on a door. The backing is oval and is also painted with cream coloring with orangish-yellow coloring along the edge. The raised edge has short grooves painted black. The piece is marked with a stamped number, which we believe is "13", on the back. Date: Uncertain but most likely circa 1930s.

Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Size: The back measures ~4" by ~3" while the front measures ~3 1/4" tall and ~3" at its widest. The piece weighs slightly over 8 ounces.

Maker: Hubley.

Marks: Has the number "13" stamped on the back.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Just a very nice old cast iron doorknocker that is in great condition and retaining most of its original paint to add to your collection.

Condition: In very good condition with no breaks or repairs. The piece retains most of its original paint and truly looks great. It has several minor surface scratches and a few spots with minor paint losses and paint chips. The knocker works very well and has a nice knocking sound. It is all original with original swivel pin.
