Description: A nice large and heavy bronze medal from 1931. This is the Society of Medalists third issue medal. The medal has the image of five Hopi rain dancers, two with snakes in their mouths, two distracting the snakes with eagle feathers and one crouching to gather up snakes. In exergue, incuse HOPI and the HA macNeil stamped in the lower right of the design all on the obverse. The reverse shows dancers racing from mesa onto the desert with their hands full of snakes to be returned to their dens. There are lightning flashes above and the words "PRAYER FOR RAIN" in exergue. The medal has a green verdigris applied to its surface which represents one of the many surface finishes this medal comes in. The edge of the medal is marked "The Society of Medalists Third Issue-Medallic Art Company N.Y." A great looking and very interesting medal to add to your collection.
