1938 Mozambique 100 Escudos Banknote P76 Banco Nacional Ultramarino PMG Fine 15

Description: A beautiful choice fine banknote from Mozambique on the eastern coast of Africa. This is the 11 January 1938, 100 Escudos, issued during the Portuguese administration. The banknote has a reddish-purple design on multicolor under-print on the front. The front also has the name of Banco Nacional Ultramarino (National Overseas Bank) of Lisbon Portugal in the top margin. The banknote displays the date and the denomination on the front and only the denomination on the back. The front also depicts the bank's seal in the lower right as well as the bust of Antonio Ennes, the famous Portuguese politician and writer, left of center. The note has the image of a seated woman with sailing ships in the background all in reddish-purple on the back, flanked by the denomination and the name of the issuing bank. It also has an indication that it is for use in the colony of Mozambique. The note has two signatures on the front. This particular note has the serial number 245,431 which is displayed on the front twice in black, but is not displayed on the back. The note is graded Choice Fine 15 by PMG and comes in a plastic holder so labelled. Please carefully view scan as it is part and parcel of our description.

Condition: The banknote is graded by PMG as Choice Fine 15 and comes in a plastic holder so labeled. It is soiled, has creases and folds, has general wrinkling, is rough along the edges and has some minor losses along the edges. The banknote has no graffiti, but has pinholes. It does not appear to have tears or splits, but has corners with rounding and some bumps. Be that as it may, this is a nice example of this rather rare banknote, which will make a great addition to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
