1940 Society of Medalists 22nd Issue Large Bronze Medal W. Hancock Other Towers

0escription: A nice large and heavy bronze medal from 1940. This is the Society of Medalists twenty second issue medal. The medal shows two nude men erecting a column with the words "THERE WILL BE OTHER TOWERS” along the edge of the obverse with the words "FOR THEE TO BUILD" in exergue splitting the date 1940 within two circles. The reverse shows a shattered oak stump with two hardy well-leafed growing around it and a bright sun shining in the background. According to the artist "the theme of this medal is the victory of man and nature over the powers of destruction. A beautiful medal with an optimistic view of the world done during the height of World War II. The medal is in mint state condition with a beautiful brown matte patina. The edge of the medal is marked "THE SOCIETY OF MEDALISTS TWENTY SECOND ISSUE 1940-WALKER HANCOCK SCULPTOR MEDALLIC ART CO. N.Y. BRONZE". Reference: Alexander SOM 22.1 Marks: Marked “THE SOCIETY OF MEDALISTS TWENTY SECOND ISSUE 1940-WALKER HANCOCK SCULPTOR MEDALLIC ART CO. N.Y. BRONZE" along the edge of the medal. There is the name (c) HANCOCK on the bottom step of the design on the obverse.

Condition: The medal is in excellent condition and I would grade it as mint state. The medal has no observable wear with minimum surface marks or scratches. It is clean and intact with no dings or blemishes. This is a great looking medal, which would make a nice addition to your collection.
