1984 Redware Large Flat Plate Glazed Brown Coloring with Mottling Brown With Yellow Pig Decoration By Ned Foltz

Description: A beautiful redware large flat plate with a coggled rim. This glazed dish has brown colored background with yellow colored mottling along the coggled edge or rim. There is a yellow colored large pig or hog standing in the center of the plate. The plate has thick walls and is rather heavy. It has a slightly flattened base with flared and rather flat sides that end at a coggled edge. The base as well as the exterior wall are not glazed and show the typical color of unglazed redware. The bowl is signed and dated by the artist. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1984.

Origin: Reinholds, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Size: Measures ~9 1/4" in diameter and is ~1 5/8"heigh. The piece weighs over 1 pound and 12 ounces.

Maker: C. Ned Foltz.

Marks: Marked with Foltz Pottery mark with the words "c. n. Foltz; Pa 1984" surrounding the mark with a cross to the bottom of it all on bottom of the base.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a beautiful redware plate made in the best Pennsylvania Dutch tradition of Southeastern Pennsylvania. It is rather substantial and weighs over 1.75 pounds. A definite beauty deserving of a prominent spot in any redware collection.

Condition: Plate is in very good condition. It has no cracks, no repairs, and no hairlines. The plate has general crazing to the glaze. The plate also has some minor scuff marks on the top, and residue of an old label above the pig all of which can be seen in the photos. Finally, the plate has a small chip on the back side at the edge, which we show in the last photo. Be that as it may, this is a beautiful and substantial piece by a great master potter, which would look great in your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
