1985 Pennsylvania Folk Art Carved Painted Bird Looking Backwards By Alan Kohr
Description: A hand carved wood and polychrome painted American Folk Art bird. The carving, which was done by Alan Khor, was made in 1985. Alan Kohr is a resident of Montgomery County Pennsylvania. The carving shows a bird standing with its head turned to look backwards. The bird has wooden legs affixed to a blueish colored base that is in the form of a half tube or domed shape. The bird is long an elegant. It is pained in dark red or burgundy with a yellow beak, blueish cheeks, black eyes with surrounding yellow border, and blueish wings with yellow decoration. The bird's tail has yellow wavy lines depicting feathers. The piece is signed A. Kohr on the bottom of the base and has the date 1985. It is in great condition with no observable damage. Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The bird itself is ~5 1/2" long, ~1 1/2" at its widest, with the base being ~1 3/4" by ~1 1/2" and ~1 3/8" high. The piece is ~4 3/4" at its highest. The piece weighs about 2.5 ounces.

Condition: The carving is in excellent condition, with no breaks, cracks, chips, or repairs. The piece has no appreciable loss to the colors (just a couple of small spots on the edge of the tail are worth mentioning), but has a few minor scratches and some dings to the surface.
