1992 Bastian Carved & Painted Wood Folk Art Red Cardinal Heart Decorated Swing

Description: A nice folk art carved solid wood sculpture of a cardinal bird on a swing or perch. The body of the cardinal is red in color with the beak painted in orange with red and the eye also painted in orange with a black center. The bird also has carved wings on its back. The bird's face has black highlights beyond the beak and around the yes. The cardinal has wire legs which are wrapped around a round piece of wood having a curved wire attached to both ends of the cylindrical piece of wood and having a heart shaped loop on top. The swing and leg wires are thick. The entire piece shows marks indicative of carving and is just great looking. It is signed on the underside near the end of the legs JB 16 for Jonathan Bastian 2016, in black color. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 2016. 

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Mr. Batian who is originally from Kutztown Pennsylvania now lives in Virginia. 

Size: The bird measures ~5 1/2" long and the swing is ~5 1/4" high by ~4 1/4" wide. The piece weighs slightly over 1.5 ounces. 

Maker: Jonathan Bastian. Marks: Marked JB 16 in black on the underside. 

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice and interesting piece of primitive Americana folk art, which would make a great addition to your collection. 

Condition: The carving is in excellent condition, with no breaks, cracks, losses, or repairs. It does have some minor scratches, a few minor dings to the surface, and some minor soiling.
