1992 Greg Shooner Redware Small Pie Plate Slip Decorated Bird Perched on Branch

Description: A nice round and relatively small (~6 1/4" diameter) pie plate with rounded base and flared rounded sides terminating in a coggled edge. The plate has a slip design of a bird perched on a branch all in yellow slip on an orangish-brown background on the front. There are also yellow wavy lines above and below the bord. the back is signed by the artist, dated, and has an engraved design of a bird perched on a tulip. The back is brown in color and smooth. This plate, as usual with all Shooner pieces, is a reproduction of an early nineteenth century piece and has intentional chips, crazing, and loss of glaze to mimic what a 200 plate would look like. It is a nice looking plate and would make a great addition to your redware collection. Please view the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Origin: Ohio, USA.

Size: Measures ~6 1/4" in diameter and is ~1 1/8" high. The plate weighs about 10.5 ounces.

Maker: Greg Shooner.

Marks: "Turtle Creek Pottery; Morrow Ohio; Lead Glaze; Not for Food Storage or Use; May Poison Food" and signed Greg Shooner 1992 in cursive calligraphy on bottom. There is also a drawing of a bird perched on a tulip branch with a flower in front of the bird below the signature.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice plate with a nice classic design. A beautiful plate deserving a prominent spot in any redware collection.

Condition: Plate is in excellent condition with no unintentional chips, cracks, repairs or hairlines. The plate does have intentional chips along the rim, crazing, and a few spots where the glaze is lost. All of these can be seen in the photo. Of course, all of these are intentional to give the plate the required look of the reproduced plate from 1800s. Please see photos for additional condition information.
