1992 L Breininger Redware Slip Decorated Small Plate 4th of July Stars & Stripes

Description: A nice glazed and slip decorated redware small pie plate by Lester Breininger. The plate has a slightly flattened base with flared rounded sides rising to a coggled edge. The orangish-brown colored plate is decorated with a yellow slip design depicting the five five-pointed stars above three yellow parallel stripes or lines. The plate is glazed on the front and not on the back. The plate is unglazed one the back and is signed in cursive calligraphy in very light writing, which we were unable to photograph. It says "L. Breininger/Robesonia PA/July 4 1992/pleasant". It was obviously made to commemorate this patriotic day and hence the stars and stripes. A nice patriotic plate made by the master potter himself with a subject chosen by the artist to honor our nation's revolution in July 1776. Origin: Robesonia, Pennsylvania. 

Size: Measures ~7" in diameter on top and is ~1" high. The piece weighs about 11 ounces. 

Maker: Lester Breininger. 

Marks: Marked "L. Breininger/Robesonia PA/July 4 1992/pleasant" in very light handwriting, which we were unable to photograph. 

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A beautiful small plate made by the Lester Breininger himself. A beautiful redware piece, which deserves a prominent spot in your redware collection or your patriotic themed collection. Condition: The plate, which is made by Lester Breininger himself, is in excellent condition. It has no cracks, chips, repairs, or hairlines. The plate has light general crazing to the glaze. Additionally, the plate has a few of the usual defects you would expect with all these primitive redware pieces such as pops, slubs, unglazed areas and uneven spots. However, this plate has a minimum number of these, which are hardly noticeable. Please see photos for additional condition information and to appreciate the beauty of this piece.
