Antique Cast Iron Painted Bottle Opener Green Perched Parrot
Description: A painted cast iron bottle opener in the form of a parrot perched on a stand. The piece is painted in green, red, yellow, brown, and black. The piece retains quit a bit of its original coloring with losses and considerable soiling. The body of the parrot retains its green coloring in two shades while its beak is yellow on top and red on the inside. The stand on which the parrot is perched is brown with the base being cream or light yellow in color. The bottom of the base is black. the parrot's eyes are green with one of the two losing all its color and showing the color of the cast iron. The parrot is standing on brown colored stand with his beak wide open. The parrot's beak is the bottle opener. The bird is perched on a stand which serves as the stand to the opener. Date: Early to mid 1900's.
Origin: Purchased in an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: About 4 5/8" high, and the base is ~1 1/2" by ~1 1/2". The piece weighs about 10.5 ounces.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice old piece, which would make a worthy addition to your collection.
Condition: The bottle opener is in good overall condition, with no breaks or repairs. It retains quite a bit of its original colors. However, the colors are soiled with considerable losses showing the dark coloring of the cast iron below. All these issues are due to the age of the piece and use but they do not distract from its quality and beauty. The piece may have been repainted in some spot but we are unable to confirm since such repainting may have been done a long time ago. The bottom of the base also appears to have been repainted. Be that as it may, this is a nice piece and would make a great addition to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
