Antique Meerschaum Cigarette Cigar Holder Beautiful Galloping Horse Carving
Description: Antique carved meerschaum cigarette or cigar holder with dark amber colored plastic mouth piece. The front of the holder where the cigarette or cigar would fit is made of meerschaum and has a beautifully detailed miniature carving of a galloping horse with a bush in front. This piece is relatively clean and was probably seldom used. The opening in the front where the cigarette would fit have minimum darkening suggesting that it may have been used once or twice? The mouth piece also has some brown coloring suggesting the rare use of the piece. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain, but most likely early to mid 20th century.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: Measures ~3" long, is ~5/8" by ~3/4" in the front with ~3/8" in diameter opening where the cigarette would go. The horse itself measures ~1 1/2" long and the piece itself weighs less than half an ounce.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very nice antique piece in great condition, which would make a great addition to any collection.
Condition: The piece is in barely used good condition with no breaks, chips, repairs, cracks, or hairlines. This piece is relatively clean and was probably seldom used. The opening in the front where the cigarette would fit have minimum darkening suggesting that it may have been used once or twice? The mouth piece also has some brown coloring at the end suggesting the rare use of the piece. In addition, the mouth piece does not have a filter at the end and the threads within the meerschaum piece are worn-out. Be that as it may, the piece is great looking and the carving is great.
