Antique Stereo Card Viewer Wood and Metal Construction Early 1900's Underwood & Underwood

Description: A beautiful antique stereo card viewer or Sterioptic Viewer. The viewer is made of a nice dark brown wood and has a tin or white metal eyepiece. It is equipped with two glass lenses and a wooded rail on which the card holder goes back and forth to adjust the view. The viewer has a nice wooden handle on the bottom which swivels up and down to allow for easy storing of the piece. The eye piece is lined with a velvety material so that a face would rest on it comfortably. The metal eyepiece has a raised design depicting a rising sun with rays extending outwards and the words "SUN SCULPTURE U&U TRADE MARK". Date: Early 1900's.

Origin: New York, United States.

Size: The eye pieces is ~ 5" in width and ~3" in height. The entire piece is ~12 1/2" in length and is 6 3/4" at its widest. It is ~8" high with the handle fully open.

Maker: Underwood and Underwood.

Marks: Has the words "Man'f'd by Underwood & Underwood; New York; Patented June 11, 1901; Foreign Patents Applied for" stamped on the metal underside of the piece.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A beautiful antique piece in very good condition. Truly a nice piece and would be a nice addition to your collection.

Condition: The optics are good, the piece is in general good condition with scratches and minor wear. The velvet lining of the eye piece is soiled, has faded, has wear, and is partially loose in a spot or two. The piece is soiled and dusty and would probably benefit for a good cleaning, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Please see photos for additional condition information.
