Beautiful 1696 Italian Papal State Uncirculated Commemorative Medal Construction of the Dogana di Terra in Rome Pope Innocent XII

Description: A beautiful commemorative copper medal from the Italian Papal States. This is the 1696 medal commemorating the construction of Dogana di Terra in Rome and was struck during the times of Pope Innocent XII. The medal depicts the image of the bust of pope Innocent XII facing right on the obverse with the legend "INNOC.XII.PONT.MAX.AN.V" surrounding the image. The reverse shows a large building with clouds above and people in front of it, The bottom of the obverse has the date "MDCIIIIC" or 1696 in Roman numerals. The reverse has the legend " QVAESTVS.MAGNVS.PIETAS.CVM.SVFFICIENTIA" ALONGTHE EDGE. The medal weighs ~25.7 grams and measures ~34 mm in diameter. This is a beautiful medal with well done details and having a beautiful chocolate toning throughout. It is beautiful and has a nice portrait of the Pontiff and the building. Condition: The medal is in mint state with no observable wear. The details of the medal are extremely well expressed and preserved. The medal has a beautiful dark chocolate toning throughout. It has a nice portrait of the Pontiff with no observable wear and great preservation of the details. It is nicely toned and has great eye appeal. It would make a nice addition to your collection.
