Beautiful 2000 Redware Glazed Slip Decorated Lidded Pot with Rooster & Tulips By C. Ned Foltz
Description: A most beautiful in form and color nice size and rather substantial redware pot with its original lid. This glazed piece has a flat circular base with rounded edge and a band just above it. The pot or jar has rounded sides rising to a flared plain rim with several raised bands below it for decoration. The sides of the piece are decorated with a colored slip drawing depicting a rooster or chicken and tulips. The pot or jar has a lid with a central finial. The entire piece is glazed inside and out with a nice dark brown coloring which contrasts beautifully with the yellow slip decoration that is highlighted with green splotches. The bottom of the lid as well as the bottom of the base are unglazed and show the typical color of unglazed redware. The edge of the rim as well as the lid are darker brown which adds a beautiful decorative accent. A beautiful piece made in the best Pennsylvania Dutch tradition of days gone by a master potter from Lancaster County Pennsylvania with the right heritage. The base is marked as to the name of the maker and the date the piece was made. This is just a great looking piece made by C. Ned Foltz of Reinholds, Pennsylvania.
