Contemporary Pewter Ladle Curved Handle and Large Bowl By Jay Stauffer Lititz PA
Date: Unknown, but most likely mid to late 1900s (mid to late 20th century).
Origin: Purchased in Southeast Pennsylvania, USA. The piece was made in Lititz in Lancaster County Pennsylvania.
Size: The bowl is ~3 3/4" in diameter on top and is ~1 1/8" deep. The handle is ~10 1/8" long and the ladle measured ~13 1/8" from end to end. The flat end of the handle itself measures ~3 1/2" long and is ~1 1/8" at its widest. The piece weighs over half a pound.
Maker: Jay Thomas Stauffer.
Marks: Marked JTS in raised letters within an oval on the back of the handle.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Nice substantial and very well made pewter ladle to add to your collection. Condition: The ladle is in very good condition. The ladle has a nice warm gray age patina with some minor scratches as well as a few surface markings throughout. The piece has a few small dings to the bowl and handle especially along the edges. It is lightly soiled and would benefit from a good cleaning to bring out its beauty. Be that as it may, this a nice piece worthy of a spot in your collection.
