Old Tin Pennsylvania Very Large Flat-Back Cookie Cutter Galloping Horse Tail Up

Description: An antique very large flat back tin cookie cutter. The design is of a galloping horse with his tail up. The cutter's back is flat and has two holes for the air to escape. The cutter's is flat and has no handle soldered to its back making this a true flat back cutter. The flat back itself is a bit distorted and with edges bent and almost curled. The flat back also shows the outline off the horse's design and shows rust signs. and showing the design border on the opposite side. One of the corners, namely the top right corner is bent to the point where it almost touches the tail. The design has some loose spots and has been crudely resoldered in some spots, namely on the horse's back and the front or leading leg. Be that as it may, this is a very well designed old cookie cutter of a very large and uncommon size, which will make a great addition to your collection. Date: Uncertain but most likely early to mid 1800s.

Origin: Was acquired at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The cookie cutter measures ~9" at its longest, is ~6 1/2" at its widest, and the design is ~3/4" in depth. The cutter weighs over 5.5 ounces.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Nice, very old, and rather unusual in size cookie cutter with a nice, uncommon, and very desirable design, which would display well in your collection of primitives and/or cookie cutters. Condition: The cutter is aged to a nice dark gray patina. It has rust spots on the front and back commensurate with the cutter's age and utilitarian function. The flat back itself is a bit distorted and with edges bent and almost curled. The flat back also shows the outline off the horse's design and shows rust signs. and showing the design border on the opposite side. One of the corners, namely the top right corner is bent to the point where it almost touches the tail. The design has some loose spots and has been crudely resoldered in some spots, namely on the horse's back and the front or leading leg. The cutter appears to be all original and very well made except for the crude soldering mentioned earlier. Be that as it may, this is a very well-designed old cookie cutter of a very large and uncommon size, which will make a great addition to your collection.
