1947 Papal State Bronze Medal Pope Pius XII Anno IX In Memory of the Proclamation of 9 Saints With F Cabrini First US Citizen to be Canonized

Description: A nice papal states bronze medal with the image of the bust of Pope Pius XII who was pope in the period 1939-1958. This the 9th year issue papal medal commemorating the proclamation of nine saints and shows images of 9 new saints which were canonized at that time. The saints include saint Frances Cabrini the first US citizen to be canonized. Its obverse shows the bust of the pope facing left with the inscription "PUIS.XII.PONTIFEX.MAXIMVS." The reverse shows the busts of the 9 new saints surrounding a flying dove within a radiating circle in the center. The design is surrounded by the legend ".INSERTI.SVPERIS.HOMINVM.SVCCVRRITE.REBVS." The medal is nicely toned in a rich brown coloring with very nice eye appeal. The edge of the medal is plain and unmarked. This is a nice looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Weight and Size: The medal weighs ~29.5 grams, is ~44 millimeters in diameter, and ~3 millimeters thick at the edge.

Marks: Marked MISTRVZZI below the pope's bust on the obverse.

Condition: The medal is in about uncirculated or much better condition. The medal shows minimum wear if any to the high point, some scratching and a few dings to the surface. The edge of the medal is plain and is unmarked. It has some minor scratches to the surface and some minor dings to the edge. These are minor and do not distract from the medal's beauty.
