Vatican Bronze Medal Pope Clement VIII A XII Bridge at Marmore Fall Velino River
Description: A beautiful and rather scarce bronze medal issued by the Vatican. This is an official early restrike of papal state bronze medal. The medal shows the image of the bust of Pope Clement VIII facing left on the obverse. Clement VIII was pope in the period 1592-1605. The reverse shows the images of river falls under s bridge with trees and mountains in the background. The obverse shows the bust of the pope wearing a decorated collar facing left with the inscription "CLEMENS.VIII.PONT.MAX.AN.XII" along the edge surrounding the pontiff's bust. The reverse has a legend "VELLINO EMISSO.A.MDC." surrounding the image of the falls and bridge. Both obverse and reverse have beaded edge. A beautiful early restrike papal medal. The medal is nicely toned in a dark brown coloring with very nice eye appeal. The edge of the medal is smooth, rounded, and unmarked. The medal was issued to commemorate the completion of a bridge over the Marmore falls on the Velino river by the architect Fontana by direction of Clement VIII. A nice-looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Weight and Size: The medal weighs ~33.3 grams, is ~41 millimeters in diameter, and ~2 millimeters thick at the edge.

The medal is in what I would characterize as uncirculated condition with nice rich brown toning. The medal shows no wear, no appreciable scratching and minimum marking to the surface. The medal shows a mark on the reverse left by a crack in the dies, which is similar to the one shown in the photo in Mazio's book.
