The mug has the words \"Bauernhochzeit\" which means \"Peasant Wedding\" at the bottom edge below the wagon and the words \"Der Hammerwagen\" or the \"Hammer Wagon\" at the bottom edge below the man, children and cow. When used, the mold would make a piece of ice cream or candy in the form of the well known Pennsylvania Dutch pair of love birds. The mold is made of two halves held together with a hinge. The two halves represent the two sides of the form to give the three dimensional shape once the candy or ice cream comes out of the mold. Each of the two halves of the mold are equipped with short extension at the edge, which serve as thumb pieces to allow you to pry the mold open once the ice cream hardens. The inside of the mold shows the details of the shape. The inside of the mold is smooth and well defined. It shows the feathers of the birds, their eyes, wings, and tails. The design shows great details and looks rather nice. It is marked with the raised lettering on the exterior of one of the halves, which spells 177 S \u0026amp; Co. The two pieces fit well together when the mold is closed and the piece is in excellent condition. The plate has a fairly shallow center with a decorative incised line along its periphery. The plate is marked on the underside with a goose or swan within an archway, the word Newcastle below it, the letters P, C, and D with what looks like anchors above them, touch marks from left to right the first should show a goose and the second should show the letter W, but these two are mostly gone (we know that because we know the mark) the third shows the letter H and the last mark shows a rose. These are the touch marks of William Hogg a pewterer in England active in the period 1780-1815. The piece has a beautiful and very nice gray age patina and a great look. A nice plate, which would make a nice addition to your collection of antique pewter plates. The box is rectangular in shape with a curved profile to fit nicely in the palm of your hand. The edges of the entire box are decorated with beautiful and rather elaborate raised scroll decoration. The center of the lid and the base have a dotted pattern, while the sides of the box have the nice raised scroll design. The box has a hinged lid on the top with the hinge being about a fifth of the way into the top. The lid closes well and sits tightly on the curved sides. The inside of the box is undecorated and shows reddish brown soiling, which we assume is residue of snuff from days gone by. The hinge is intact and works fine and the lid closes securely. The box is all original and is in very good condition for being over 150 years old.
