Antique Pewter Deep Basin Touch of Thomas Danforth Boardman Hartford Connecticut
Description: An antique deep pewter basin or bowl having a flat narrow rim with an incised line and rolled edge. The bowl has a round flat base with rounded edge and rising sides. The sides of the bowl are slightly rounded and flared outwards rising to the flat rim. The bowl is marked in the center of the inside with an Eagle surrounded by a double border having little circles with the letters "...D.B." below it all (The mark of Thomas Danforth Boardman-Mark no. 38 in Jacob's book). The bowl, which we believe is form the early to mid 1800s is rather substantial and very well made. The bowl has a nice light grayish with silver highlights patina. A great looking 200 years old pewter basin made in Harford Connecticut. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain but Thomas Danforth Boardman was active 1805-1850 so the piece was made in that period.
Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The piece was made in Hartford Connecticut.
Size: The base measures ~5 3/4" in diameter at the base, ~8 1/8" in diameter at the top, and the piece is ~2" high. The basin weighs about one pound.
Maker: Thomas Danforth Boardman.
Marks: Marked in the center of the inside with an Eagle surrounded by a double border having little circles with the letters "...D.B." below it all (The mark of Thomas Danforth Boardman-Mark no. 38 in Jacob's book). See the last photo for details.
Condition: It is in good condition. The piece is from early 19th century and is rather substantial and very well made. It is great looking and has a beautiful grayish silver look. The bowl is intact with no breaks or repairs. It has many scratches, multiple small and relatively shallow dings, and some pitting as well as staining on the inside. Be that as it may, the piece is nice and would make a great addition to your collection of Antique American Pewter. Please see photo for additional condition information.
