Old Tall Reed & Barton Pewter Flagon with Hinged Lid Applied Handle w/ Heart End
Description: Offered here is a vintage tall and substantial pewter flagon by Reed and Barton. The flagon which is ~12" tall and weighs ~2 pounds and 14.5 ounces, has a domed hinged lid with a flat thumb piece. The hinge and thumb piece combination is attached to an applied handle which has a small flat heart at the bottom end. The flagon has a round footed base with a concave bottom that is marked with the maker's mark. The base rises in a step fashion to straight rising side having a double raised ring mid way to a shaped rim. The flagon has a covered spout. The flagon has a nice warm gray age patina and would look great in any collection of old pewter. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: Measures ~6 1/4" in diameter at the base and ~3 7/8" in diameter at the top. It is ~9 1/2" at its widest including the handle and spout while it is ~12" high to the top of the lid. The piece weighs about 2 pound and 14.5 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a great looking old piece of pewter which would display nicely in your collection.
Condition: This flagon is in good condition and having a nice warm gray age patina. The flagon has what looks like a small repair on the underside of the lid where the thumb piece appears to have been re-soldered to the lid sometime in the past. Additionally, the bottom tip of the spout has some minor loss at the edge. Other than that, the piece is solid, intact and looks great. The flagon has a few scratches, some minor dings here and there especially on the edge of the base, and is soiled inside and out. The piece is soiled and would probably benefit from a good cleaning, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. All of the issues discussed can be seen in the photos. Be that as it may, this is a beautiful piece of very nice form, which would look great in your collection of old pewter.
