Pewter Snuffbox Snuff Box Curved Sides Hinged Lid Raised Repeating Pattern Décor
Description: Offered here is an antique (mid 19 century) pewter snuff box or snuffbox. The box is rectangular in shape, having a flat profile and curved sides. The box has a hinged lid on the top having a small, raised piece which can be used to open the lid by inserting your nail under it. The lid closes well and sits flush with box. The lid of this simple snuffbox is decorated with a repeating pattern of oval raised dots arranged in alternating vertical lines and separated by raised lines. The pattern consists of a line of single dots and a line having four dots arranged in a flower shape. The inside of the box is undecorated and shows reddish brown soiling as well as gray residue on the bottom, which we assume is residue from the snuff, which was held in the box in the past. The hinge is intact and works fine and the lid closes properly. The box is all original and is in very good condition for being over 150 years old. A nice snuff box in very good condition after being around for over 150 years, which would make a nice addition to any collection. Size: The box measures ~2 13/16" by ~1 7/8" by ~3/4" and weighs about 2.6 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: An interesting antique snuffbox in very good original condition, which would make a nice addition to your snuffbox collection or tobacco/smoking related collection.
Condition: The box is in very good condition with minor dings and scratches throughout. The raised design on the lid shows some light wear here and there but is still great looking. The hinge is intact and the lid closes properly and sits flush with the box. The interior of the box is soiled with a reddish-brown as well as some gray residue which we believe is from the snuff which was stored in it in the past. The exterior of the box has soiling throughout and a dark gray patina. The piece would probably benefit from a good cleaning to bring out its full beauty., but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. The box is all original and is in very good condition after being around for over 150 years. Just a nice antique pewter snuffbox worthy of a spot in any collection.
