Very Nice Vintage Pewter Ice Cream Mold of an Easter Chick, Marked 603

  • $ 89.99

Description:  A very nice pewter ice cream mold in the form of a chick, which we believe it is for Easter. The mold is made of two halves joined together with a hinge. It opens to reveal the clean and smooth design on the inside on both halves. The inside of the mold shows the shiny design of the chick. It shows the chick standing in what looks like grass and has its beak open. The design shows great details and looks rather busy. The piece has two small thumb pieces at the edge of one on each half to allow you to open it easily. It is marked with the number 603, on the outside, in raised lettering. Please carefully review photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Early to mid-20th century.

Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: Measures ~2" by ~2 1/4" at the base, is ~3 1/8" high, is ~1 3/4" at its widest and is ~4" long. The piece weighs 11.5 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Marked with the number 603 on the exterior in raised lettering. It has no other markings.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice and unusual piece to be used to make ice cream treats during Easter. It is really a substantial piece weighing 11.5 ounces.

Condition: It is in excellent condition, with no breaks, cracks, repairs or losses. It does have some general wear commensurate with its age and utilitarian function. It also has some rust at the bottom of the hinge, see last photo. Finally, the metal rod holding the hinge, is a bit loose and falls out and maybe the reason there is the rust at the bottom of the hinge. Be that as it may, the piece is still great looking and intact. Please see photo for additional condition information.
