1878 Paris World's Fair Crystal Dresser Box Colored Image of Trocadero Palace

Description: Offered here is a glass or crystal cylindrical footed dresser box. The crystal box has brass framing with four ball shaped brass feet. The ox has a hinged glass lid with a silk-like material backing and a colored print depicting a scene from the 1878 World's Fair or Exposition Universelle held in Paris France. The scene depicts the Trocadero Palace with people and gardens. The interior of the box has a light blue velvet base with decorative metal studs in the bottom. The box is in excellent condition with no breaks, hairlines, or repairs, and some minor scratches. This box was probably a souvenir purchased at the fair in 1878. We are including a postcard showing the Trocadero Palace as it was in the day. A nice antique box to add to your collection with a nice historic postcard as a complement. Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The box measures ~3 1/2" in diameter and is ~3" high. The piece weighs about one pound and 4 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: An interesting antique glass box in very good original condition, which would make a nice addition to your dresser box collection.

Condition: The box is in very good condition. The box has no breaks, no repairs, no cracks, and no observable chips. It does have a few minor scratches to the surface, which are difficult to see. The hinged lid in solidly n place and the hinge works as it is supposed to. The internal cushion in the bottom of the box is a bit soiled, but is intact. The silky lining to the back of the lid seems to be a bit faded but is intact. The colored image in the lid is intact with vivid colors showing no losses. The brass structure is a bit dull and would probably benefit from a good polishing to bring the box to its original beauty. The postcard is intact and in very good condition. It is filled on the back with French writing, which we are unable to read. All in all, a great historic box to add to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
