1904 Argentina Silver Medal Inauguration at The Port Of Concordia Maritime Scene
Description: A nice heavy silver medal from Argentina. The medal commemorates the inaugurationn of the works at the port of Concordia on the Uruguay River in Argentina on October 8, 1904. The medal depicts a ship in port with a woman's figure on the front on the obverse. There is water and a dock with mooring hooks. There is a sun setting in the background as well as a lighthouse at the end of the wave breaker extension. The reverse has legend "INAUGURACION DE LAS OBRAS SEL PUERTO DE CONCORDIA 8 OCTUBRE 1904; MINISTERIO DE OBRAS PUBLICAS PRESIDENTE JULIO A ROCA MINISTRO EMILIO CIVIT (translating to Inauguration of the works at the port of Concordia October 8, 1904; Ministry of Public Works President Julio A Roca Minister Emilio Civit) all within a wreath with the words Republic of Argentina on top. The medal measures 45 millimeters in diameter and has some heft. It is graded as MS 63 by NGC and comes in a plastic holder so labeled. The art work is by sculptor Juan Gottuzzo and the medal is marked GOTTUZZO in raised lettering on the reverse. A great looking medal which will make a nice addition to your maritime type medals or silver medal collection.
