1941 National Bank of Egypt 5 Pounds Banknote P# 19c Larger Nixon Signature VF+

  • $ 99.99

Description: A beautiful very fine or better banknote from Egypt. This is the Cairo 19th December 1941 five pounds banknote issued by the National Bank of Egypt. The banknote is green and purple in color. It depicts the image of the building housing the National Bank of Egypt in Cairo in the center of the front. It also has designs of ancient Egyptian deities in rectangular frames at the top left and right corners of the front. The back is blue and red on green and orange background. The back shows an image of a building surrounded by palm trees in the center. The note has no watermark that we could find. The front of the note indicates that the note was issued according to the decree dated 25th June 1898. This particular note has the serial number 015067 and is from the series M/57, which is displayed three times in black lettering on the front and not on the back. It is signed by Nixon the governor of the National Bank of Egypt at the time. This note has the larger Nixon signature. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description

I would grade this banknote as a nice very fine or better with all the details being well preserved. The note is attractive but shows evidence of handling and wear. It has several folds both vertically and horizontally. Paper has some soiling and a few minor stains (one particularly obvious at the left edge near the bottom on the back), all of which can be seen in the images presented. The note's paper is still relatively crisp and not floppy. The note has no tears into the border area, although the edges do show some wear and have small and minor nicks at the end of the folds. The corners are intact with minor rounding and do show some bumps. The note has no graffiti (a miracle for Egyptian notes), pinholes, or splits. A great note to add to your collection. Please see scans for additional condition information.
