1977 Painted Carved Wood Decorative Mallard Drake Decoy Glass Eyes By WL Gable
Description: A beautiful carved wood painted decoy with what we believe are glass eyes. The decoy, which shows a Mallard Drake, has a flat base and beautiful carved and painted body with a minimum of carved details. The carved details include some carving to show the definition the nostrils on top off the bill, defining where the bill meets the head and around the eyes. The piece is carved of wood and is painted in shades of green, gray, brown, and blue with white highlights. The bottom of the decoy is unpainted and is signed and dated by the artist. It is really a nice decorative piece that is well done and signed by the artist. It would make a great decorative piece or a nice addition to your collection. Date: The piece is dated March 8, 1977.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The decoy measures ~12" long, ~ 4 1/4" at its widest, and ~4 1/2" at its highest point. The piece weighs over 14.5 ounces.
Maker: W. L. Gable.
Marks: Signed WL Gable and has the date 3/8/77 in cursive calligraphy on the base.
Condition: The piece is in very good condition with minimum wear to the finish. The paint is all there and shows very little loss if any. The colors are fresh and vivid with no fading. The piece is intact with no breaks, cracks or repairs. The piece has a few minor scratches or dings, it is clean and has no stains. It is a nice, solid, beautiful, with lots of character, and would display very nicely. Please see photos for additional condition information.
