1979 Redware Large Glazed Bowl Cobalt Blue Coloring with Light Mottling By Ned Foltz
Description: This is a beautiful and relatively unusual bowl or deep plate with high sides made by Ned Foltz. The plate, dated 1979, has a beautiful cobalt blue coloring on the inside with lighter colored mottling, which gives it a very nice appearance. The deep plate is not glazed on the outside and has the typical coloring of unglazed redware and is signed on the bottom. The bowl has a flat circular base with rising and slightly curved sides slanted outwards with two parallel incised lines on the outside. The sides end in a coggled rim. The bowl is substantial and weighs almost 2 pounds and five ounces. A great looking piece worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a beautiful redware plate made in the best Pennsylvania Dutch tradition of Southeastern Pennsylvania. It is rather substantial and weighs over 2 pound and 4 ounces. A definite beauty deserving of a prominent spot in any redware collection.
Condition: Plate is in very good condition. It has no cracks, no repairs, and no hairlines. The plate has general crazing to the glaze, which is very difficult to see because of the colors. The plate has a small chip to the back along the edge which we show in the last photo. The plate also has a few of the usual defects you would expect with all these primitive redware pieces such as pops, slubs, unglazed areas, slip error, and uneven spots. These are original to the making and do not distract from the plate's beauty or quality. Please see photos for additional condition information.
