1989 Glazed Redware Brown Rabbit Figurine Yellow Sponged Decoration by Ned Foltz
Description: A great looking glazed redware figurine of a rabbit sitting on his hind legs with third leg resting on basket while the fourth is up. The rabbit is colored in brown and has yellow sponged decoration throughout. The rabbit has a basket in front of him with one leg resting on it. The rabbit figurine shows details of the face, the muscles in the body, the fur, the tail, the legs and the ears. A nice and unusual piece made by a master potter from Lancaster County Pennsylvania. The piece is signed and dated by C. Ned Foltz. The hollow figurine is glazed on the outside but not on the inside or the bottom. Origin: Reinholds, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Size: The figurine measures ~6" in height with the base measuring ~4 1/2" by ~1 3/4" and weighs almost 10 ounces.
Maker: C. Ned Foltz.
Marks: Has the words "c. n. Foltz; Pa; 1989" with a cross next to the date all on the bottom of the base in cursive calligraphy.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice and very interesting piece. This piece is made in the best Pennsylvania Dutch style by a master potter with the right heritage. It is very well made and has beautiful coloring. It would make a great addition to your collection.
Condition: The rabbit is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or hairlines. Careful examination did not reveal general crazing to the glaze throughout but due to the coloring it would be very difficult to see.
