20 Piastres Rare Silver Egyptian Coin 1929 AD or 1348 AH Mint Mark BP King Fuad the First Facing Left
Description: A very fine or much better 1348 AH or 1929 AD Egyptian twenty piastres rare silver coin. The coin depicts the bust of King Fuad or Fouad the first (who ruled Egypt during the British occupation) facing left. He is wearing a uniform and a fez and has the words Fouad the first King of Egypt along the edge on the obverse. The reverse has the words "Al Mamlkah Al Mesryah" (Kingdom of Egypt) in the center in beautiful calligraphy surrounded by the denomination and the date in years AD (1929) and AH (1348). The letter "BP.' also appears on the bottom of the reverse. This is a relatively rare coin with low mintage of only 50,000. Please carefully review scan as it is part and parcel of our description.
Date: 1929.
Mint: Egypt (actually the coin was minted in Hungary and has the mint mark BP on the reverse for Budapest, Hungary). Only 50,000 of this coin were minted.
Size and Weight: This is a 20 piastres, which is approximately 40 mm in diameter and weighs ~28 gm of 83.3 silver. The coin has a reeded rim.
References: It is KM #352.
Condition: I would grade this coin as a nice very fine or better. The details are all well preserved and readable. The coin is much better than the scan shows. It does have scratches, some stains or soiling on the obverse on the back of the king's neck and on his fez and wear commensurate with its age and circulated status. All of these issues can be seen in the photos and the scans. Please see photo for additional condition information.
