2004 Glazed & Slip Decorated Redware Chamber Candlestick Holder By Greg Shooner

  • $ 107.77

Description: Contemporary reproduction redware glazed and slip decorated Candlestick Holder with finger loop and deep dish. The candlestick holder has a flat round base with outwards flared straight sidewalls that rise to a coggled shaped rim. The piece also has a central shaft with an opening on top that goes the length of the shaft. The shaft has a formed plain rim. The piece also has a handle where you can fit a couple of fingers to carry it around. The piece has a nice light brown colored background with black slip in wave form along the side of the dish and at the rim of the central shaft, where the candle would fit. The handle itself is decorated with parallel lines of yellow slip and with a yellow flower? at the bottom of the handle. The piece is glazed inside and out but not on the bottom. The bottom of the candlestick holder is unglazed and has the artist's signature and date. The piece, which is in great shape, is of course a reproduction of 18th or 19th century redware implement. It shows glaze flakes along the rim, general crazing to the glaze, and a few spots where the glaze is lost on the top of the handle. We believe these are intentional by the potter to give the piece the antique look Greg Shooner is famous for. All of these can be seen in the photo. The piece has a wonderful form and size. Please note the candle is not part of the lot, it is used to show what the piece would look like when in use. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a beautiful piece of art pottery, which would be a beautiful decorative accent in your country home or to add to your collection.

Condition: The piece is in very good condition. It has no cracks, repairs, chips, or hairlines. It does have general crazing to the glaze, which is difficult to see but is there. The candlestick holder does have glaze flakes along the rims and on top of the handle and general crazing throughout. We believe the glaze chips maybe intentional to give the piece the antique look that Greg Shooner gives to all his redware implements. All of these can be seen in the photo. Please note the candle is not part of the lot, it is used to show what the piece would look like when in use. Please see photos to appreciate the beauty of the piece and for additional condition information.
