Antique Manganese Glazed Redware Deep Pie Plate Bowl Southeastern Pennsylvania
Description: Beautiful antique deep redware pie plate with round flat base and rounded sides ending in a plain rim. The plate is brown in color and is manganese glazed as evidenced by the black or dark brown speckles throughout. The bowl is glazed on the inside but not on the outside. The glaze is brown with some darker tones near the edge. The coloring has dark brown or black speckles distributed throughout indicative of manganese glazing. The back or bottom of the plater is dark black in color indicative of extensive use of the plate over the years. A beautiful plate with great looking coloring making this piece a great addition to your antique redware collection. Date: Uncertain but most likely early to mid 19th century or possibly earlier.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: Measures ~7 3/4" in diameter at the top and is ~1 7/8" high. The piece weighs a bit over One pound and 5 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a beautiful antique redware deep pie plate or bowl with great form and color. It would display very well in your collection of antique redware. It is in relatively good condition given it is over 200 years old, just super.
Condition: The plate is in relatively good condition with no repair, which we can identify. It has two tight cracks or hairlines, which we show in the last few photos. It also has general crazing to the glaze which gives the plate great character and look. The piece also has several old chips or possibly defects original to the making along the rim, which can be seen in the photos. The plate also has a minimum number of spots of surface losses to the glaze. Finally, as is the case with all these primitive old redware pieces, the bowl has a few of the usual defects you would expect such as pops, slubs, unglazed areas, and uneven spots. Be that as it may, these issues do not to distract from the beauty and quality of the piece. Please view the photos for additional condition information.
