Antique Primitive Iron Hogscraper Hog Scraper Push-up Candlestick Holder

Description: A beautiful antique primitive hogscraper or hog scraper shaped push-up candlestick holder. This mid 1800s primitive candlestick holder has a raised disc shaped base with a central tubular stem. The stem has a push-up mechanism with the thumb piece used to push the candle up. The tubular stem has a collar on top to catch molten wax. There is also a curved extension attached to the collar on top to help carry the piece. A very interesting antique iron candlestick holder in very good condition. It would make a great addition to your collection. Date: Uncertain but most likely mid 19th century.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania, where it was most likely made.

Size: The mold measures ~4" in diameter at the base and is ~5 1/2" in height. The piece weighs about 5.5 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice iron American primitive piece in good condition and worthy of a spot in your collection.

Condition: The candlestick holder is intact with some wear to the surface and rust spots throughout. It is in relatively in good condition with no break, losses, or repairs. The surface has scratches, dings, and rust spots, which can be seen in the photos. The piece has general soiling and some waxy residue to the top collar. The thumb piece at the top is bent, which we are not certain it is the way the piece started. In addition, the motion of the push up mechanism is a bit sticky and not very smooth. The piece has aged to a dark patina. It would make an excellent addition to your antique primitive collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
