Description: A beautiful crisp extremely fine or much better banknote from Egypt. This is the Cairo 9 January 1956 one pound banknote issued by the National Bank of Egypt. The banknote is blue and lilac in color on multi colored background. It depicts the image of Tutankhamen facing forward within a circular frame to the right of the front. The back is blue in color and shows ancient Egyptian temple ruins in water with a round white circle to its right (where the watermark is located). The front also indicates that the note was issued according to the decree dated 25th June 1898. This particular note has the serial number 345232 and is from the series (Kha Dal) KD/40, which is displayed twice in black lettering on the front and not on the back. The note has a watermark depicting the head of the Sphinx of Giza. It is signed by Ahmed Zaki Sa'ad the governor of the National Bank of Egypt at the time. I would grade this banknote as a nice extremely fine or much better with all the details being very well preserved. The note has a light central vertical fold but is clean, crisp, and otherwise intact. The note has no stains, no graffiti, no pinholes and is in great original condition. The note retains most of its original stiffness and crispiness. The corners are intact, fully squared with no observable rounding. The edge shows no roughness and note has no tears or splits. A beautiful crisp note in excellent original condition worthy of a spot in your collection of Egyptian banknotes. Please see scans for additional condition information.
