December 9, 1948 Germany Federal Republic 5 Mark Banknote Europa & Bull P# 13 VF
Description: A nice very fine or better banknote from the Germany. This is the 9.12.1948 (December 9, 1948) five marks currency note. The banknote is black on green and yellow background. It depicts the image of a woman with her breasts exposed (Europa) on top of a black bull in a very modernistic design with the number 5 in the center on the front. Europa is holding the sun in her hand. The back has the same color scheme as the front with a nice geometric design of straight and curved lines and the number 5 in the center again. This is a very nice and rare banknote with very nice colors and a beautiful and very attractive design. This particular note has the serial number IOQ927524 displayed twice in red on the front but not on the back. The banknote has a security thread left of center and a water mark depicting a woman's head. Please carefully review the scan presented as it is part and parcel of our description.
Date: 1948.
Printer: Unknown.
Size: The banknote measures ~4 3/4" by ~2 3/8".
Pick Number: P 13e and is listed in the Banknote Book as B113a.
Condition: I would grade this banknote as a good very fine with all the details being very well preserved. The note has several vertical folds and one horizontal fold. It also has general wrinkling and some light soiling and one or two minor stains. It has no pinholes and the corners are intact with minimal rounding but show bumps and creases. The note has no tears or splits and retains some of its original crispiness. The edges show some minor roughness especially at the ends of the folds. This is a beautiful note that would make a great addition to your collection of German banknotes. Please see photo for additional condition information.
