Description: A beautiful hand carved wood and polychrome painted American Folk-Art decorative Figurine of a Goose. The carving is of a bird, we believe is a goose, with its wings open as if it was in flight or getting ready to. The goose is carved from wood and colored in black, dark blue. gold, and off-white. The goose's head is dark blue while the top of its body is in black with off-white highlights delineating feathers and the bottom half of the bird is in off-white. The goose's bill or beak is in gold color. The goose has two eyes outlined in off-white with black centers. The goose itself has a slightly flattened base on which it sits. The bird has the letters "84 WJ" written on the underside for Walter and June Gottshall 1984. Just a wonderful and nicely done piece of American Folk Art to add to your folk art and Americana Collection. Date: The piece is dated 1984.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Lancaster County Pennsylvania.

Size: The goose is ~4 1/2" at its highest, ~3 7/8" at its widest ~7" long. The piece weighs about 3.5 ounces.

Maker: June and Walter Gottshall.

Marks: Marked "84 WJ" on the underside of the goose.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice and unusual piece of Americana, which would make a worthy addition to your collection of American Folk Art.

Condition: The carving is in very good condition, with no breaks, cracks, losses, or repairs. It does have minor scratches, a minimal loss to the paint, if any, and a few minor nicks. Please see photos for additional condition information.
