Description: A hand carved and painted wood bird figure. The carving shows a black bird standing on a brown oval wood base. The bird is attached to the base with the help of a yellow colored this wood cylinder. The carving shows a black bird with a yellow beak and yellow eyes with a black colored plastic center. The carving shows the general shape of the bird with wings, beak and tail being expressed. The carving is colored in black with yellow colors for the beak and the outline of the eyes. It is very well done by what we would categorize as an accomplished folk-art carver. The carving is marked as to the artist on the underside of the base. A nice piece of folk art carving to add to your Collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Unknown, but most likely late 20th Century (late 1900s).
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The piece was made in Oley Pennsylvania, not far from where it was purchased.
Size: The bird itself measures ~10" long with the piece being ~7 1/4" at its highest and the base being ~4 5/8" by ~3 1/2". The piece weighs about 6.5 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice piece of folk art, bird carving, which would make a worthy addition to your collection of bird carvings.
Condition: The carving is in very good condition, with no breaks, cracks, or repairs. It does have minor scratches and surface losses of the paint showing the white gesso that is under the paint especially at the corners and ends but also throughout the body. It also has a few minor scratches to the body. Other than that, this is a great piece to add to your collection of wood carved birds and folk art.
