Mexican Crown Size Silver Coin 1953 Five or Cinco Pesos United States of Mexico Hidalgo's Bust Nice About Uncirculated or Better
Description: A beautiful silver crown size coin from Mexico. This is the 1953 five or cinco pesos coin for the Mexican United States. The coin shows the bust of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla the historical Mexican figure who was a priest and a leader of the Mexican War of Independence on the obverse. Hidalgo's bust is facing left with his name shown below it in raised lettering. The reverse shows the Mexican eagle with a serpent in its beak, the denomination and the words ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS along the edge. The reverse also shows the mint name as "Mo" and lists the weight (Peso) of the coin as 27 7/9 grams as well as the silver purity (Ley) of 0.720. The edge of the coin (the third surface) is also marked with the following lettering "COMERCIO-AGRCULTURA-INDUSTRIA." Please carefully review the photos provided as it is part and parcel of our description.
Date: 1953
Mint: Mexico City.
Size and Weight: Coin weighs ~27.78 gm of ~0.720 silver and is ~40 mm in diameter.
References: It is KM 467.
Condition: I would grade the coin as a beautiful about uncirculated or much much better with all the details being well preserved. The coin retains quite a bit of its original mint luster. The high points in the coin show minimum, if any. See the hair and facial details of Hidalgo as well as the details of the wreath on the obverse. The reverse also retains all of its details with minimum, if any, wear. See details of the feathers on the eagle's chest and of the snake. The coin is problem free and has a few scratches, minor dings, and a minimum number of bag marks. It has minor over all soiling and still retains quite a bit of its original mint luster. It is a beautiful, great looking and would make a great addition to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
