Description: A beautiful heavy silver crown size coin from Mexico. This is the 1956 ten or diez pesos coin for the Mexican United States. The coin shows the bust of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla the historical Mexican figure who was a priest and a leader of the Mexican War of Independence in high relief on the obverse. Hidalgo's bust is facing left with his name shown below it in raised lettering. There is the legend "INDEPENDENCIA Y LIBERTAD" surrounding Hidalgo's bust and also shows the mint name as "Mo". The reverse shows the Mexican eagle with a serpent in its beak, the denomination and the words ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS along the edge. The reverse also shows the date, the denomination, the coin's weight 28.888 and the silver purity (Ley) as being 900. The coin has a reeded edge. Condition: I would grade the coin as a beautiful about uncirculated or much much better with all the details being well preserved. The coin retains quite a bit of its original mint luster. The high points in the coin show minimum, if any wear. See the hair and facial details of Hidalgo as well as the lettering on the obverse. The reverse also retains all of its details with minimum, if any, wear. See details of the feathers on the eagle's chest and of the snake. The coin is problem free and has a few scratches, minor dings, and a minimum number of bag marks. The coin is clean and still retains most, if not all, of its original mint luster. It is a beautiful, great looking and would make a great addition to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
