Nice 1857 Flying Eagle Cent Good Very Fine Coin
Description: A beautiful very fine copper-nickel Flying Eagle cent or penny. This is the 1857 issue, representing the first official year for this issue. The coin itself is better than the photos suggest and shows wear commensurate with its age and use. The coin shows a flying eagle with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" surrounding it and the date below on the obverse. The reverse shows the denomination spelled out within a wreath. The coin has a plain edge. This is a great looking coin and shows a beautiful design with no detectable problems. These coins were designed by James Longacre and are becoming difficult to obtain in such a nice grade. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: 1857.
Mint: Philadelphia.
Size and Weight: The coin is ~4.4 grams of a copper-nickel alloy and is 19 mm in diameter.

Condition: I would grade the coin as a good very fine. The coin shows good details of the feathers in the right wing and the left wing. IT also shows details of the head and feathers in the body. The reverse the lettering as well as the wreath which has lost some of its detail. The coin is problem free and looks great. These coins are becoming rather difficult to find. Please see photos to appreciate the beauty of the coin and for additional condition information.
