Old Unusual Metal Desktop Inkwell Wolf's Head Hinged Top Missing Glass Insert
Description: A very unusual desktop metal inkwell. This inkwell is in the shape of a wolf's head. The wolf's head is tilted backwards and the wolf is looking up. The entire head is colored in black with the wolf's eyes being yellow with black centers. The inkwell is made of metal that does not stick to a magnet. It is well cast and shows details of the fur, the ears, the mouth and facial particulars. The head is attached to a base that is ferrous (sticks to a magnet) with two screws on the bottom. The base also shows details of the fur. The piece which is black has what looks like gray highlights which we are not certain if it is lost paint or colored that way. The top of the base shows some minor signs of rust. The top of the wolf's head is hinged and when opened reveals a spot where a glass insert for the ink should be. However, this inkwell is missing the glass insert. Other than that, the piece is in very good condition, with no breaks, losses, or repairs. A fine figural inkwell in very good condition to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Size: Base measures ~6 3/4" by ~5 1/2" and it is ~3 1/4' to the top of the wolf's nose or ear. The opening where the insert would fit is ~1 1/2" in diameter and is ~1 1/2" deep. The piece weighs about 1 pound and 13 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice and very unusual antique inkwell to add to your collection.
Condition: The inkwell is in very good condition. The piece is intact with no breaks, losses or repairs. The hinge for the cover is intact and works as it should. The piece is missing the glass insert and we are selling it as is without it. The wolf's head is black with gray highlights which we are not certain if they represent losses to the back coloring or loss of paint. Never the less they do add character to the piece. There are losses to the paint throughout and the cast iron base (the head is non-ferrous metal) shows some minor rust signs. but nothing to worry about. A great and very unusual inkwell worthy of a spot in your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
