Smithsonian Institution Limited Edition Enameled Box Colorful Carousel Horse
Description: A vintage beautiful lidded enamel on copper oval box by Distributed by The Smithsonian Institution. The box has an extended oval flat base with straight rising sides. The lid of the box is decorated with colorful transfer showing a galloping carousel horse. The horse has the image of an orange and yellow eagle on its behind, a black saddle, a red colored blanket under the saddle, a blue bridle, brown hair in the mane and tail, and gray highlights throughout the body with black hoofs and eyes. The inside of the lid has the image of a carousel in blue color. The rest of the inside is white and undecorated. According to the notation on the bottom of the box this is box number 9 of 300 issued by the Smithsonian Institution. The brass hinged lid has an outward extending hinge and thumb piece. The lid closes well and tightly. A great looking box worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: The box is not dated but we believe it is from the late 1900s (late 20th century).
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in south eastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The box measures ~1 3/4" by ~1 1/2" at the base and is ~1 1/4" high to the top of the lid. The box weighs about 1.5 ounces.
Maker: Unknown.
Marks: Marked on the bottom with the image of a building with the words SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION above it and the words Limited Edition No. 9 /300.
