Two Small Primitive Carved Wood Black Birds Metal Wire Legs & Feet J. Bastian
Description: A pair of nice primitive black colored carved wood sculptures in the form of black birds. The two birds are similar and small. They are carved detailing an open beak, wings with feathers along their edge, and the tail. The birds are painted in black with yellow-colored painted eyes that are round with a central dot. The birds have ferrous (sticks to the magnet) wire legs and feet. The surface of the birds is textured and not smooth showing the marks of carving throughout. The surface of the birds show minimum paint or color loss and the legs show signs of rust, but are solid and solidly in place. This lot of two carvings is a very nice and interesting depicting primitive pieces of folk art which would make a great addition to your collection of wood carvings or primitive wood figures. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

The other bird is ~3" long from the tip of the beak to the pointed end of the wings ~1 5/8" at its highest, and is ~7/8" at its widest (at the end of the tail). Condition: The pieces are in very good condition with no breaks, cracks, or repairs. Both have very little wear to the black finish. Note the larger bird has some loss at the tip of the wing and the end of the tail, at the corner. The surface of the bird is textured and not smooth showing the marks of carving throughout. The metal legs and feet show signs of rust, but are solid and solidly in place. Both pieces have minor scratches, one or two small dings to the surface of the wood, and general soiling, mostly in the form of dust. Be that as it may, both pieces are solid, beautiful, with lots of character, and would display very nicely in your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
