1947 Hand Carved and Painted Signed Wooden Bird Figure on Tree Stump Kyoto Japan
Description: An exquisitely made hand carved wood bird figure. The carving shows a bird perched on a tree stump. The carving is very well done and shows the finest of the bird's wing, tail, head and feathers. It is in brown, yellow and black colors and extremely well done by what we would categorize as an accomplished carver. The carving is signed in Japanese and was acquired from a collector who purchased the piece from its original owner who had purchased it in 1947 in Kyoto, Japan. Unfortunately, we are not familiar with the name of the carver, but in all honesty, this is one of the best bird carvings we have encountered in a life time of collecting and dealing in bird carvings. This small carving (~3 1/2" long) shows a great deal of which indicate the ability of the carver to work on miniatures with great accuracy. The original owner had a written note and included a copy of it with the piece which summarized the fact that it was acquired in 1947 in Kyoto Japan. We are including this copy of the note with the item. Just a wonderful and extremely well-done piece of Japanese folk art to add to your Collection of bird carvings. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
