1987 Carved Wood Merganser Drake Duck Decoy By Harriet Corwin of Beaufort, NC Creative Carvings
Description: A beautiful decorative painted carved wood small duck decoy. This is a decoy of a merganser drake or male duck. The piece is carved in the sleek form of a merganser drake with green head, orange bill and white wings. The decoy has red painted eyes with black centers. The decoy has no carved details except for general shape and curves within the head. The wings are outline in color with black colored highlights. The decoy has a flat unpainted bottom, which is signed and dated by the artist. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: The piece is dated 1987.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The decoy measures ~11" long, ~3 1/8" at its widest, and ~3 1/4" at its highest point. The piece weighs about 5.5 ounces.
Maker: Harriet Corwin.
Marks: Marked on the bottom with ink in print calligraphy "Merganser; Creative Carvings 1987; Harriet Corwin." See last photo.
Condition: The piece is in very good condition with minimum wear or losses to the paint. The piece has no breaks or repairs. It has a few minor scratches and dings to the surface but these are difficult to see and are at a minimum. Be that as it may, this is a very nice piece which would display well in any collection or represent a nice decorative accent at your vacation house at the lake.
