1991 Lancaster County Menno Carved Wood Polychrome Painted Folk Art Ewe and Lamb
Description: A beautiful and rather unusual wood carved and polychrome painted primitive American Folk Art female sheep or ewe standing with a lamb next to her. The flat carving shows a gray colored ewe standing with its head down grazing and having a lamb sitting next to her. The ewe and lamb are positioned on a green colored flat base. The female ewe and lamb have light colored faces with mouths, nostrils, and eyes detailed with carved lines and black and brown coloring. A very interesting, unusual, and highly decorative folk-art primitive carving. The carving is affixed to the base with nails and the base itself is marked with the artist's name and date. Origin: Purchased in an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Made in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Size: Base measures ~9 1/4" by ~2 3/4", while the carving itself is ~5 1/4" high and is ~1/2" wide. The piece weighs about 6.5 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice and colorful piece of Americana. This is a beautiful and solid piece of wood carving. A definite beauty, which deserves a prominent spot in any folk art wood carvings collection.
Condition: The carving is in excellent condition with no cracks, repairs, or loss to the coloring. There are some spots where the artist did not fully cover the wood with paint. Additionally, the piece has a few minor scratches and bumps, which are difficult to see. All of these issues do not distract from the beauty and quality of the piece.
