Antique Primitive Small Size Plunger Type Butter Mold Beautiful Acorn Design

Description: A beautiful antique small size turned wood or wooden butter mold. This small plunger type mold has an engraving of an acorn with two leaves on top. The wooden case of the mold is plain and is outwards sloped while having a rounded top and a raised ring in the middle. The plunger itself is rod-shaped with a knob shaped top. It protrudes from the top of the case through a round opening and holds the disk print portion. The entire piece is made of lathe-turned wood having a nice light coloring. Date: Mid to late-1800's.

Origin: Purchased in an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The piece was most likely made in Lancaster County Pennsylvania.

Size: The print itself measures ~1 7/16" in diameter, the mold measures ~1 7/8" in diameter at the bottom and is about 3" in height, when fully extended. The mold weighs about 1.5 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very interesting and well made butter mold with a nice and very desirable design. This is a nice small butter mold, which would make a nice addition to your collection. Condition: The piece is in very good condition. It has no breaks or repairs. It has general wear and soiling commensurate with its age and use. The piece has some surface scratches and light stains throughout, but nothing to distract from its quality or beauty.
