1989 Redware Deep Bowl Glazed Brown Colored with Dark Mottling Ruffled Edge and Ear Handle By Ned Foltz

Description: A beautiful deep redware bowl with a ruffled flared edge. This deep bowl was made by throwing on a potter's wheel as evidenced by the lines obvious within its walls. The bowl has a round flat base with outwards flared slightly rounded side walls ending in a ruffled flared rim. The bowl has applied ear shaped handles which are braided in appearance. The bowl is brown in color and glazed inside and out. It is unglazed on the bottom and shows the color of unglazed redware. The coloring of the bowl is enhanced with dark brown or black sponging or mottling which is indicative of manganese glazing. The bowl is signed and dated by the artist . Origin: Reinholds, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Size: Measures ~3 1/2" in height, is ~8 1/2" in diameter on top and the base is ~4 1/2" in diameter. The piece weighs about 2 pound and 2 ounces.

Maker: C. Ned Foltz.

Marks: Marked "c. n. Foltz; The Foltz Pottery; Pa 1989" with a cross to the bottom of the writing all in cursive calligraphy on the bottom of the base.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a beautiful redware bow made in the best Pennsylvania Dutch tradition of Southeastern Pennsylvania. It is rather substantial and weighs over 2 pounds. A definite beauty deserving of a prominent spot in any redware collection.

Condition: Bank is in excellent condition. It has no chips, cracks, repairs, or hairlines. The piece has general crazing to the glaze throughout. A beautiful and substantial piece by a great master potter. Please see photos for addition condition information.
