2000 Redware 7 1/4" Pie Plate Glazed with Frosty Snowman Decoration By Ned Foltz

Description: A beautiful redware smaller pie plate (~7 1/4" diameter) with a coggled rim. This glazed dish has a beautiful design showing a snowman (Frosty?) with a yellow scarf standing on a pile of snow. The plate has a brown colored background with white specks (it is snowing). Frosty is wearing a black hat with a carrot nose, black eyes, and a black dotted mouth. The plate has a dark sponged coloring along the coggled rim. The plate has a slightly flat base with slightly rounded rising sides that rise to a coggled edge. The plate has thick walls and is rather heavy. The base as well as the exterior wall are not glazed and show the typical color of unglazed redware. The bowl is signed and dated by the artist . Origin: Reinholds, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Size: Measures ~7 1/4" in diameter and is ~1 1/8" high. The piece weighs about 1 pounds and 3 ounces.

Maker: C. Ned Foltz.

Marks: Marked "Ned Foltz; The Foltz Pottery Mark; Reinholds, Pa 2000" with a cross to the bottom of the writing all in cursive calligraphy on the bottom of the base.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a beautiful redware plate made in the best Pennsylvania Dutch tradition of Southeastern Pennsylvania. It is rather substantial and weighs over 1 pounds. A definite beauty deserving of a prominent spot in any redware collection. Condition: Plate is in excellent condition. It has no chips, cracks, repairs, or hairlines. The plate has general crazing to the glaze. A beautiful and substantial piece by a great master potter to add to your collection.
