2005 Redware Deep Pie Plate Glazed and Sgraffito Decorated Primitive Tulips on Yellow by Greg Shooner

Description: A nice round and relatively deep pie plate with rounded base and flared rounded sides terminating in a coggled rim. The plate has a sgraffito design of stylized tulips colored in shades of brown with green colored leaves all on a dark yellow background. The rim has a yellow band decorated with dark and light brown slip in the form of "V" with a dot in the center alternating with one facing up and one facing down. This plate, as usual with all Shooner pieces, is a reproduction of an early nineteenth century piece. It is a nice looking plate and would make a great addition to your collection. Origin: Ohio, USA.

Size: Measures ~8 1/2" in diameter and is ~13/4" high. The plate weighs about one pound and 5 ounces.

Maker: Greg Shooner.

Marks: "Shooner American Redware; Oregonia, O; Mary Spellmire Shooner; This Glaze Contains Lead; Not for Food Storage or Use" and signed Greg Shooner 2005 in cursive calligraphy on bottom.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice plate with a nice and unusual sgraffito design. This is a beautiful, solid and substantial plate weighing over a pound 5 ounces. A definite beauty, which deserves a prominent spot in any redware collection.

Condition: Plate is in excellent condition with no unintentional chips, cracks, repairs or hairlines. The plate does have intentional chips along the rim, crazing, a few spots where the glaze is lost. All of these can be seen in the photo. Of course all of these are intentional to give the platter the required look of the reproduced plate from 1800's. Please see photos for additional condition information.
